A slight upgrade.
Ever since I picked up the mustang, I have wanted to upgrade the steering wheel from the standard wheel to the deluxe wheel. The deluxe wheel is the same as the one that my old XB GT Falcon has from factory.
While the standard wheel is in good shape, I just like the look of the deluxe wheel.
While I could just go and buy a reproduction wheel from one of the GT Falcon shops locally, they dont come in ginger. I could also purchase a restored ginger one from a wheel restorder in New Zealand, however the cost is around $1600.
As such, I have been keeping an eye out for a decent un restored wheel for some time. I managed to find a good ginger wheel that did not have any cracks and was in reletively good shape in Denmark of all places on facebook marketplace. While doing all the usual checks to make sure it was not a scam, I flet confident that this was genuine. So I purchased the wheel and had it shipped. The shipping cost as much as the wheel. The total purchased cost was just short of $600AUD.

I then set about cleaning the wheel and the centre pad.
I tried to chrome paint the centre emblem. Initially, it looked good, but oils from my fingers even after the paint had cured seemd to tarnish the paint.
So I opted for a new repro one. The original had a scratch in it just above the horse.
Here is the centre pad cleaned and ready to go back on.
I then replaced the ginger horn rubber with a new reproduction item. Unfortinately the repro's dont come in ginger and only black.
Then out with the old.
And in with the new.
