So what was ordered way back in 1972.
Back in 1972 when the car was ordered, there was a option list as long as your arm that could be chosen from.
For my Mach 1 the options added were modest.
Here is a breakdown based on a Standard Marti report that I have just received.
Serial Number 2F05H232551
The breakdown of the serial number is as follows:
2 - 1972
F - Built at Dearborn
05 - Mustang Mach I 2-Door SportsRoof
H - 351-2V V-8 Engine
232551 - Serial Number of this Ford scheduled for production at Dearborn
The door tag shows the following:
07/72 July, 1972
Colour - Body - 63R - Mustang Mach I 2-Door SportsRoof
Paint - 6F - Gold Glow Metallic Paint, Ford #5079-A
Trim - AF - Ginger Vinyl Standard Bucket Seats
Trans - X - FMX Select Shift Automatic Transmission
Axle - 2 - 2.75 Conventional Rear Axle
DSO - 71 - Los Angeles DSO (District Sales Office)
DEALER #: 71B055
Your vehicle was equipped with the following features:
- Body Side Tape Stripes
- California Emission System
- E70X14 Belted White Sidewall Tires
- Power Steering
- Sport Deck Rear Seat
- AM Radio
- Tinted Glass
- Sports Wheel Covers
The only change to the car based on what was ordered is the radio. It now has a period correct AM/FM radio installed. The rest is unchanged.
The sports wheel covers, while not awesome looking, are the originals.
The person ordering the car would have chosen to option up a base 1972 mustang with the following:
Mach 1 pack with Sports roof
Larger capacity V8 engine up from a 302 to a 351.
Heavy duty FMX transmission.
2.71:1 diff ratio
Gold glow paint
Ginger trim
Power steering
Tinted glass
Body stripes
Sports wheel covers.
So the car is not a standard base model vehicle.
The colours available at the time were per this colour chart.
